I do believe in Divine Intervention.
In June, 2021, our beloved, black standard poodle, Fritz, was diagnosed with lymphoma. My husband and I elected to keep him comfortable, but to not put him through weeks of chemo and the dreaded trips to the vet. We weren’t going to torture him for our sake.
Our friends told us to get another puppy right away, some said to wait; some even suggested to not get another poodle!!!
I wanted Fritz to have my full attention during his illness, so I decided to wait until after he passed, and when I was ready for the responsibility, to get another puppy. But, every so often, I would “window shop” for standard puppies on the internet.
Every few days I would look, checking breeders, prices, locations, etc… then one evening I found a breeder on the internet, who was no longer in business, but had photos of 9 puppies from a different breeder that they recommended. There was no date on the photos, so as far as I knew, they puppies were now adult dogs with families of their own. But I took a leap of faith, and emailed the Noyes Family Farm, inquiring about their puppies. I shared the story of Fritz, my strong love of him, and our many adventures together. And I included my cell #.
Almost immediately, I got a phone call from Scott and Michelle. It was an out of state phone number I didn’t recognize, and I NEVER answer those kind of calls; that night I answered my phone. Michelle and I talked for close to an hour, talking about Fritz, his titles in obedience, his agility classes, kayaking, hiking, and his favorite activity, goat herding!! It was decided that night, that a puppy from her litter, HAD to become part of our family. My husband agreed.
I wasn’t sure about the timing, it wasn’t what I had planned on doing, but I honestly felt it was part of His plan for me, and who am I to question His guidance.
In November of 2021, I flew from California to Denver, Colorado, to meet Michelle and my new puppy. My niece, lives in Denver, so she joined me at the hotel, to wait for the arrival of Michelle and the puppy. Michelle showed up with a sassy, independent, loving, little brown furball of joy. We named her Coco Belle Scholatica.
Coco came home with me, and immediately fell in love with Fritz. They had 3 weeks together. She followed him everywhere, snuggled with him, and I like to think he let her know that she was in good hands.
On December 7, Fritz crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He had just turned 6.
Coco is a wonderful addition to our family. We have 4 rescue kitties, and coco is kind, playful, and loving to them all. Our Siamese, Sami, is particularly in love with Coco; snuggles and rubs on her, every chance he gets. Coco is also in love with my grand babies; they run and chase and play til they drop.
We completed beginning obedience classes last month, and have now begun the intermediate classes. It all seems to be coming together and making sense to Coco. She is dedicated to me, and highly motivated by treats; the perfect combination.
As much as I miss Fritz, I am equally in love with Coco. There is no doubt in my mind that God intervened and blessed us with the circumstances that put the Noyes family and Coco into our lives.
God is good.
